Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo popularly known as “D’banj” was accused of rape by Seyitan Babatude at Glee Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos in December 2018. In response to this rape charge, D’banj sued Seyitan Babatunde for 1.5bn claiming the allegation caused him psychological truama and deformation of character. Several investigations have been conducted concerning this rape case and the police has reported that no evidence has been found.
A letter assumed to be written by Seyitan’s lawyer on 17th july clearly states that she is withdrawing her petition against the musician. The letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police states;
“We hereby officially notify you of our client’s intention to withdraw and discontinue her petition against Mr. Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo aka D’banj for personal reasons. Our client further humbly applies that the investigation and all other action that is currently being carried out by the police with respect to the statement”.
In response to this letter, Umar Sanda who is the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Admin) said that their investigations for this particular rape case have been discontinued as there is no evidence found.
STER, a human right group has confirmed that Seyitan Babatunde did not receive any money or was forced to do so. They went further to inform the public that this decision was the outcome of a mutual agreement with D’banj’s team.
